27th December 2017

Twas the last game
Before Christmas
When all through the court
All Badabings were stirring
Especially the short. Our balls all hung
By the basket with care
In hopes
That Coach Edwige
should Soon be thereThe teams were sorted
All safe in their zone
dreams of shots forted,

glad I’am not at home,

Sally black bibbed
And I in my kit,
We settled down
the court the games keep us fit.

When out on the court
There arose such a clatter
I sprang to my feet
To see what was the matter

Away to the door
I saw in a flash
we open the shutters
And threw up the sash

The bing on the breast
Of a  fallen Dania
Gave the game lustre
lets play more or hang ya,

When what

To my wandering eyes
Should appear
But Josephine Shooting
And eight BadaBingdeers
With a tall driver
So lively with Feddi
I knew in a moment
It must be Coach EddyMore rapid than eagles
His talk came
As he whistled
And shouted
And called
Each by nameNow Stretch
Now Rump
Now Thumper
Now Bee
On Lion
On Wasp
On Panther
And BambiTo the top
Of the court
To the top
Of the keyl
Now dash-away Dania
Dash-away ShirleySo up
To the housetop
The court
They flew
With a sleigh
Full of Balls
And coloured bibs tooAnd then
In a twinkling
I heard on the court
The prancing
And pawing
Of each we fought

As I drew in my head
And was turning around
Down the Key
Coach Ed
whistled that’s out of bounds

He was dressed
All in Red
From his head
To his foot
And his clothes
Were all tarnished
With ashes and soot

His eyes
How they twinkle
His dimples how merry
His cheeks
Were like roses
His nose like a cherry

He spoke not a word
But went straight
Up the court
And filled
All the baskets
Then turned
With a jerk

An layup with a finger
Along side his nose
Then giving a nod
Up the court
He rose

He sprang
up to the hoop
To his team
Gave a whistle
An away
They all flew
Up and down
Not to Miss’all

But I heard him exclaim
As he drove out of sight
Happy christmas to all
And to all a goodnight
